We would like to take the opportunity to answer a few commonly asked questions regarding our events. We hope these answer most of the questions you may have. We look forward to seeing you at our events and we thank you for making The Washington Wine Academy the premiere wine education resource in the DC area!
Q: Do you serve dinner at your events?
A: Many of our events do include food which varies from a cheese plate to a more substantial spread. Others of our classes- our certification classes for example- do not include any food, and we strongly recommend that all students eat prior to class.
Q: Why do you have so many different educational events?
A: Because our students are of all levels and interests! “Academy” sounds serious - and if serious wine education is what you are looking for, our certifications are perfect for you. If you’re newer to the world of wine, however, we still have classes which you will find interesting and at your level. If you are more of a beer person, we have classes for you too - regardless of your current knowledge level. If you’re more of the “spirited” sort, we have classes for you too! If your interests lie more with cheese and food, watch our calendar for those classes too! Our student’s diversity of interests dictate our classes- if we had boring students, we’d have boring classes, but fortunately that’s not the case.
Q: What time should I arrive for these events?
A: For classes and seminars at the Washington Wine Academy Education Center , doors open 15 minutes prior to the event which usually start on time. For receptions and tastings, we recommend arriving as close to on time as possible to maximize your enjoyment. Please factor in time for parking or transportation.
Q: Is there parking nearby?
A: For events held at our Education Center, please see WWA Education Center for more details. For events held at other locations, we will always post both our parking suggestions and easiest public transportation options. Please always allow extra time for parking as the unforeseeable circumstances always could arise.
Q: How much wine do you end up drinking during the event?
A: The amount of wine tasted varies on the type of event or class held. Following professional wine tasters, Washington Wine Academy encourages spitting and provides cups and buckets to facilitate that. Cheese and crackers are often offered, and water is always readily available. The Washington Wine Academy is committed to the enjoyment of our guests and upholding the compliance regulations of all jurisdictions and reserves the right to refuse service to intoxicated guests, as this may distract other patrons.
