The Washington Wine Academy is a 501c3 not for profit organization
based in Alexandria, VA and founded in 1999.
Though, we are not a Fortune 500 company,
we understand our impact (or our global footprint) to the
environment will be noticed. Therefore, we wanted to take
this opportunity to share with you some of our "Green"
initiatives we have undertaken to make that foot print much
smaller.
The Washington Wine Academy:
-
Recycles over 90% of all wine bottles
we use for tastings, private/public events, wine certification
courses, festivals, receptions and more.
-
Recycles over 90% of wine box cardboard,
office paper and magazines.
-
Recycles water bottles, beer bottles
(from our DC School of Beer) and soda cans.
-
Uses recycled materials in our in-house
printing.
-
Prints most materials in house to save
on fuel, shipping fuel and packaging materials.
-
Prints materials, programs and publications
two-sided to save paper.
-
We use glass plates vs. paper in our
catering operations to save on paper waste.
We feel everyone can make a difference. It takes efforts
to recycle wine bottles, cardboard and office paper
but we feel it is worth it.
Remember - Think
Global and Act Local!

Jim Barker next to a recycle hopper at the
Metropolitan Cooking and Entertaining Show held at
the DC Convention Center in November 2008. We filled
three of these with beer and wine bottles at our Beer,
Wine and Spirits Pavillion throughout the weekend.
See you soon at a future Washington Wine
Academy tastings, socials, wine festivals or one of our
wine certification classes!
