Washington Wine Academy Education Center

Education Center On October 10th, 2009, The Washington Wine Academy was thrilled to open the doors to its Education Center- the first brick and mortar wine school in the DC area. After operating for 11 years without a permanent base, the Education Center represents an enormous opportunity for the Washington Wine Academy to expand its offerings to the DC Metro area.

Outfitted with 3 flat screens and wireless internet, the Center easily showcases multimedia presentations and seats 40 comfortably for class or lecture though it can accommodate many more in a reception style format.

There is also a small kitchen to assist in the catering of our classes and functions. Our Education Center may also be used for conferences, meetings, and events during both day and night, depending on availability- if interested, please email Events@WashingtonWineAcademy.org

Located between the Pentagon City and Crystal City metro stations, the Washington Wine Academy Education Center is located in the base of the Bennington Luxury Apartments in Crystal City. There is street parking readily available, with most of it being free after 6 pm. One caveat - given our proximity to Crystal City and Pentagon City, on busy nights- Saturday for example- parking can be difficult, so please plan accordingly when visiting us.

    Washington Wine Academy "Green" Initiatives

The wine industry can generate a lot of waste, something which the Washington Wine Academy is dedicated to reducing.

Wine Bottles

Jim Barker next to a recycle hopper from a big event we hosted at the DC Convention Center in November 2008. We filled three of these with beer and wine bottles at our Beer, Wine and Spirits Pavillion throughout the weekend.

We’re really proud to do our part, and, accordingly, we:

  • Recycle over 90% of all wine bottles we use for tastings, private/public events, wine certification courses, festivals, receptions and more
  • Recycle over 90% of wine box cardboard, office paper and magazines
  • Recycle water bottles, beer bottles (from our DC School of Beer) and soda cans
  • Use recycled materials in our in-house printing
  • Print most materials in house to save on fuel, shipping fuel and packaging materials
  • Print materials, programs and publications two-sided to save paper
  • Use glass plates vs. paper in our catering operations to save on paper waste

We feel everyone can make a difference. It takes efforts to recycle wine bottles, cardboard and office paper but we feel it is worth it.
