The French Wine Society is an organization dedicated to the promotion of French wine through education. Launched in 2005 with headquarters in Washington DC, the FWS develops study programs on the wines of France at all levels. Individual members advance their wine knowledge and explore the rich diversity within French culture through our activities and education programs. Our industry members can promote their wine portfolio and wine events through our network of outreach opportunities; they can also train their employees and sales network through our organization and its education programs.

The FWS offers several certifications including the French Wine Scholar, a comprehensive overview, and Master Level programs of Bordeaux, Provence, the Rhone Valley, with Languedoc-Roussillon, Burgundy, and Champagne Master Level programs coming soon.
Endorsed by the Wines of France, The French Wine Scholar program is the most comprehensive examination of French wine available in the United States. Covering the history, the geography, the geology, vinicultural techniques, viticultrual practices, and the many different styles of wine produced in every major wine producing region in France. The exam is a 100 multiple choice test, of which the candidate must correctly answer 75% to pass. Successful candidates may use the post nominal FWS.
The Master Level Certificates indicate an expertise in specific regions with in France. The exams consist of three sections- a map section, a 50 point multiple choice exam, and a five short answer questions. Currently Master Level Certificates available are Bordeaux, Provence, and the Rhone Valley.
